EAST VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL

Processed with Snapseed.

The towns along the Volusia County Coast are full of rich Florida nature, family fun, and beautiful architecture. Each little section of this stretch of Atlantic coastline has its own unique personality drawing in hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world every year. To me, one of the coolest things about our area is the diverse culture found from east to west. We have what we call “the beachside” which is our thin strip of land between the Halifax River and the Atlantic Ocean. People on the beachside embrace the laid-back beach life and spend their time enjoying the water. On the west side of town past I-95, Volusia County has a thriving agricultural community with hundreds of acres of ferneries, citrus groves, and palm tree plantations. Each town from south to north has a main artery with a bridge across the river. In New Smyrna Beach, it’s State Road 44; in Port Orange it’s Dunlawtown Ave; Daytona Beach has International Speedway Blvd and Mason Ave; and finally Ormond Beach has Granada Blvd. Each of these main east/west arteries intersects several north/south connecting roads from A1A to Beach St to US-1, Nova Rd, Clyde Morris Blvd, Williamson Blvd, and finally I-95. Each one gets a little bit faster as you move from east to west.

The quaint and picturesque Flagler Avenue downtown district of New Smyrna Beach on the south end of the county is a plethora of shops and restaurants stretching from the river to the ocean that hosts regular community art shows, wine walks, pub crawls, and more.

Just north of “NSB” is the booming town of Port Orange which is now home to the Pavilion Shopping Center. South Daytona is a buffer between Port Orange and Daytona Beach just as Holly Hill is a buffer between Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach. Daytona is the mecca of motorsports, home to the Daytona International Speedway and NASCAR. It also has three colleges including Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Bethune Cookman University. Daytona is a tourist-driven town with large annual events like Bike Week, Race Week, Rolex24 Hours of Daytona, National Cheerleading Championships, Biketoberfest, and more. The north end of town is where you will find the quiet and serene city of Ormond Beach where auto racing first began on the white sandy beaches. Ormond has rich history and has preserved much of its natural beauty in places like Tomoka State Park, the Ormond Loop, and the Casements.

Volusia County is the beach destination for most visitors to Central Florida. One hour south of Jacksonville and one hour east of Orlando, this area has become a shipping hub for distributors due to its centrality and access to major highways.
