Question: What led you to your current career?

Answer: “I’ve always wanted to be a dentist, even when I was a young kid. When I got to college, I loved science and wanted to pursue something in the medical or dentistry field. I worked at a dental clinic as an assistant in college and decided that was what I wanted to do. I went on to dental school, loved dentistry but decided I wanted to specialize in orthodontics which is working more with kids and teenagers and the cosmetic side of creating smiles so that’s why I became an orthodontist.”

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Volusia County?
A: “That’s a hard one…for lunch, my favorite restaurant is probably Oliv in Holly Hill. I love their rice bowls, they’re really really good. For dinner, probably Zen Bistro in Daytona Beach. They make amazing red curry, it’s awesome.”

Q: How long have you lived in this area?
A: “So we have lived here now 2-years. We first moved here and lived in the Trails in the center of Ormond Beach in a townhouse. Then we bought a house beachside and moved here a little over a year ago.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
A: “I would probably say either Italy or the South Pacific like Indonesia and Bora Bora.”

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is new to the area?
A: “I think you have to decide what type of lifestyle you want here in Ormond Beach. I think if you’re working a lot and traveling for work, living west here in Ormond Beach is good. There are a lot of new houses west in Ormond Beach and you’re close to the interstate which makes it easy to travel to Orlando or Flagler County, even Jacksonville. I think living beachside is really awesome especially due to the fact that it feels like we have a secret little town here that is so close to the beach and have lots of homes available here. It’s a cool atmosphere with the beach and river so close which is why we moved beachside.”

Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: “Traveling more places, having a baby, hopefully in the next week she’ll be here! So that’s on my bucket list. (Since conducting this interview, Amy and her husband Trey welcomed their first child, their beautiful daughter Nora, into the world). I would say maybe remodeling some more houses here in Ormond Beach, buying some fixer uppers.”

Q: What’s your favorite music?
A: “Fleetwood Mac, Mumford & Sons, Avett Brothers. I’ve seen them all but they’re all amazing and I’d see them all again.”

Q: What business or place makes you feel the most nostalgic about Volusia County:
A: “Hull’s Seafood gives me that feel. I feel like that’s a staple here in Ormond Beach.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Volusia County?
A: “The beaches here are really awesome. I love the weather in this part of Florida. I’ve lived in South Florida, Central Florida, and North Florida and I would say that this is probably my favorite Florida weather. Traffic-wise, it’s amazing here on this part of the coast. South Florida traffic is no fun. I just like that it’s super convenient to so many places. It’s convenient to Orlando, to Jacksonville, to South Florida even. It’s not too far to get to South Florida or Tampa. It’s a great place to get to explore the rest of Florida.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: “In 5 years, definitely still here in Ormond Beach. I’m a partner now in the practice that I joined so staying here, growing that practice. We have offices in Ormond Beach and Palm Coast. So growing those practices to be better, to be larger, to serve more of the community here in town which I love doing. I love working with the families and the kids here that I get to treat and these days even a lot of the adults who choose to get braces or Invisalign. I love being able to impact or change their lives by being able to improve their smile which I think is a pretty cool thing that I get to do for a lot of people. Maybe even expanding our family some more in that time.”
